Could GDPR create a demand for lawsuits for Consumers/Clients?
Could GDPR create a demand for lawsuits for Consumers/Clients?
Following a recent event APS was asked to comment on GPDR. Some of the discussion centred around the Question: could the new GDPR EU data laws create a wave of consumer lawsuits with rumours that Legal Firms are being set up to support the potential demand similar to PPI.
In summary the GDPR Regulation gives clients guaranteed free and easy access to personal information and data, confirming what personal information is held by companies and public authorities about them as an individual.
So what does this mean?
The request for information from consumers could ask organisations to explain why incorrect data held has prevented the customer getting credit or even employment. In addition, post a declared data breach, class actions may be brought against offending companies on behalf of the customers involved.
Rumours in the Market that any compensation payments could be over £30bn, so is now the time to take GDPR seriously for your Organisation?
