Realising your Project Benefits
We all set out in Programme and Project management by completing our PID and Business Case to secure the funding to complete the delivery, but how many of us revisit these key living documents during the project.
Then when its gone live do we put in place the owners of the benefits and are they ever realised?
Programmes and Projects now are mainly funded by the business benefit and realisation of those benefits, whether these are from the ever increasing need to meet the requirements of the regulators or drive through digital initiatives. How do you as a change professional ensure these are followed through?
Working closely with the end customer and beneficiary of the benefits to ensure they are adopted across the organisation will support you as part of the Post Project Review. To support the adoption a Programme or Project Manager during the lifecycle of the delivery will need to ensure they:
- Review and update the benefits
- Provide clear communication and reporting
- Understand the measurement and assessment of the benefits
- provide critical success factors
By driving the change and being a champion for best practice, Business trust and engagement increases aligning to your approach. With them more likely to own the benefits and drive these through when you are delivering your next project.
