#The Disruption of digital learning. 3 Things we have learned so far…

    By:   Alyson Hobkirk

Firstly, digital learning has been around for some time however the onset of COVID-19 has accelerated the need for organisations to better understand their learning landscape and in effect to bring learning to where the user is in a multitude of ways. In this blog I hope to simply how corporate learning has changed and to highlight 5 key things that we as professionals should be aware.

This topic is important because learning is over $140 billion business and it crosses over the $300 billion marketplace for degrees, and education around the world. Now with enhanced technology, digital learning content and learning has been enhanced like never before, making it accessible and available to all.

Secondly, this topic is #2 on all CEO and HR leaders’ minds and according to Deloitte trends, 83% rate this topic as important whilst 54% rate this topic as urgent. In this world of AI, organisations are realising the importance of automation and the need for reskilling.

Thirdly, ‘digital learning’ is about bringing learning to where our users – our employees are. It’s not about learning on your phone, it’s about the ‘way you learn’ and ‘how you learn’ and most importantly it’s not about the ‘type of learning’. So just like Uber to locate a ride or Deliveroo to order food, we need learning to be as easy and intuitive. Shifting from ‘instructional design’ to ‘experience design’ and design thinking is crucial here. Tools like Youtube, google, slack have shifted learning and our jobs is simply to bring learning to where our users are. Its no easy task, it takes alot of new technologies and focus however its where learning is headed.
